In
Arthurian Legends, Corbenic is
the site of the Grail Castle; the
mythic place where the Holy Grail is
kept safe by the Grail Kings.
The origin of the name of the Castle of Corbenic is uncertain.
However, the name
may come from Corbin-Vicus.
If the "ic" part of the word comes from the Romans, then the ending of the name
is almost certainly derived from the Latin for town or military settlement.
The Welsh name of the hill is after
Bran the Blessed or Bran Fendigaid. The word bran means
crow or raven. The word bran translates into the French of the
Romance writers by the word Corben.
Castell Dinas Bran, a possible site of the
Grail Castle, is sometimes known as "Crow Castle".

This etymology is far from certain.
There is no textual basis to support these assumptions. What is more, there is
no reason why the word crow was linked to the Grail Castle of
King Arthur mythology.
However, in Welsh
myth, Bran Fendigaid or
Bran the Blessed,
has interesting parallels to King Arthur.
Just like King Arthur's knights,
Bran went on a long journey to find a magical Vessel
of Plenty. This was a Celtic Cauldron of Rebirth. Also, like the
Grail-King, he was wounded by a spear and his land
became a wasteland until he was healed.
Bran may have been
the first of the Grail-Kings of
Arthurian legend. However, the first
Grail King was named Brons. He was the
son-in-law of St. Joseph of Arimathea.
