Dartmoor is a vast, wild and often
misty open moor land covering over 365 square miles. There are many
fascinating places to visit. Stone clapper bridges, granite tors and
small hamlets can be explored.
Blackingstone Rock, near the town
of
Moretonhampstead, is associated with
King Arthur.
To the east, just off
the B3212 going in the direction of Postbridge, there is an
ancient Bronze Age settlement of huts at Grimspound, built
nearly 4000 years ago.
Dartmoor evokes an Arthurian past in its unspoilt
beauty. There is miles of countryside to walk across. Many small
villages and hamlets worth visiting are Ashburton,
Buckfastleigh, Two Bridges, Buckland-in-the-Moor,
Manaton, Lydford, Bovey Tracy, Princetown,
Drewsteignton, amongst others. Tavistock to the west, and
Okehampton to the north, border The National Park.
