The Knights of the Round Table are
at the heart of all Arthurian Legends.
They are King Arthur's friends,
companions, and at times, even his enemies. We shall look at each knight
in brief here, and later go into more detail.
Sir Kay One of King Arthur's first nights, and son of Hector,
King Arthur's foster-father.
Sir
Lancelot The knight whose foster-mother was the
Lady of the Lake.
The greatest warrior; the hero of many legends;
and lover of Queen Guinevere, who, through his impulsive infatuation,
destroyed the fellowship of the Round Table.
Sir Bedivere King Arthur's trusted knight, who fought at his sight,
and the only knight to survive the
Battle of Camlann. King Arthur, on his
deathbed, bade the knight take his sword and cast it into the waters of
the lake.
Sir Bors A leading knight in
the Grail quest, and the only
knight to return to King Arthur's court.
Sir Gawain King Arthur's nephew, who fought with
King Arthur, but
was killed at the Battle of Camlann.
Sir Galahad The perfect knight and ideal hero, encompassing
purity and strength, holiness and courage, in his quest for the
Holy Grail.
Sir Perceval Possibly an earlier version or name of Galahad.
Sir Tristan Nephew (or possibly son) of King Mark of Cornwall,
and lover of Isolde.
Sir Mordred According to some stories, he was the illegitimate
son of King Arthur and his half-sister. Mordred eventually caused civil war
in King Arthur's kingdom, and brought down the fellowship of the
Round Table,
after the final
Battle of Camlann.
